Why Presto Capture Needs HTTPS
Browsers only let a website use your camera, microphone or screen on a secure connection. That means your site must run on HTTPS for Presto Capture to record. This is a browser safety rule, not a limit in the plugin.
Applies to: Presto Capture 1.0.0 and above.
What You’ll See on an HTTP Site
If your page loads over plain HTTP, the recorder shows this message:
Recording requires a secure (HTTPS) connection
The record button stays disabled until the page loads over HTTPS.

How to Fix It
- Check your site address. Open the page and look at the browser address bar. It should start with https://.
- Install an SSL certificate if you don’t have one. Most hosts offer a free certificate from their control panel.
- Go to Settings > General in WordPress.
- Update both WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) to start with https://.
- Click Save Changes.
- Reload the page with the recorder and try again.
Tip: Not sure how to add a certificate? Ask your hosting provider. It usually takes a few minutes.
Local and Staging Sites
Plain HTTP disables the recorder on test sites too. You have two options:
- Give your staging site a real SSL certificate.
- Test on localhost. Browsers treat localhost as secure, so recording works there.
Once your site runs on HTTPS, the record button turns on and visitors can start recording.
